 Welcome Mat was founded in 1969 and is the oldest and largest judo club in the entire Kansas City area and one of the largest Shingitai Jujitsu clubs in the United States.

 
 Our history dates so far back that Welcome Mat actually introduced the Russian sport of Sambo to the Kansas City area in 1977 and is nationally recognized as one of the leading programs in this grappling sport.  More than simply a "club" Welcome Mat has developed into a large regional group of individual clubs with numerous outstanding, qualified coaches.

 This is where DLT Welcome Mat is blessed to be part of a program which has many individual locations in western Missouri and eastern Kansas, most locations primarily in the Kansas City area. Each club location is coached by one of our Welcome Mat instructors and all offer the best possible coaching in Judo, Shingitai Jujitsu, Sambo, Submission Grappling and Self-Defense.

 You see everything about our history is widely known and accepted for fact. Unfortunately few that are still active in the Kansas City area got to experience the hard core-you will become champion training, that Steve raised us on. This type of training is what created numerous champions and paved the road for Steve Scott to become a Hall of Famer(literally). This site was built and dedicated to the athletes of DLT that dedicate the time, energy, dedication, sweat and the kitchen sink to invest in becoming a champion.

We only hold one class that week that is meant only for competitors, other than that everyone works together and feeds off of each other in every class.
